The annual Edible Book Festival and Celebration on Aug. 5 marked the end of Summer Fun 2023 at the Whitefish Community Library.

There were five creative entries representing books from different genres. All participants received a gift certificate that was generously donated by Bookworks Bookstore of Whitefish, the sponsor of this event.

The People’s Choice Award was a three-way tie between Liliana Hoge, Freya Hoge and Jaxen Flores.

Liliana was inspired by the book “Gallant” by V.E. Schwab using brownies, frosting, jam, graham crackers, fondant and red vines. She was awarded the Most Evocative of a Mysterious Atmosphere and People’s Choice Award.

Freya created an edible version of “House of Hollow” by Krystal Sutherland using white cake, frosting, raspberry jam and fake flowers. She was awarded The Most Hauntingly Delicious Looking and People’s Choice Award.

Jaxen chose the book “Super Mario Brothers” by Random House. He used radishes, peppers and basil from the home garden, pepperoncini, hardboiled egg, toast, cheese and edible markers. He was awarded the Most Resourceful and People’s Choice Award.

Tev and Aurora Tims’ creation was based on “101 Dalmatians” by Disney. They used a funfetti cake with 101 numbered Oreo cookies. They were awarded The Patience award for patiently scraping the inside of mini-Oreos and numbering 101 of them with icing.

Shannon Hoge and Julia Hernandez's creation was inspired by the classic book “Blueberries for Sal” by Robert McCloskey. They used cereal treats, frosting and blueberries. They were awarded The Sweetest Sculpture award.
